May 17, 2024 | Online Event | Asian American Homeschoolers | Meet The Authors
In this video we explore themes of racism, trauma and war on children, their families and community in the context of interracial relationships as well as what they hoped this book would accomplish. The message of hope, resilience, friendship. family, and community in the face of the childhood trauma of separation, ethnic conflict, and systemic injustice are culturally relevant to all as a new generation is immersed in their own story.
When difficult, terrible things happen in the world of children, we can offer them hope even in the darkest of times by pointing out their helpers. By looking for those people that bring inspiration, courage and strength, we can make our own choice to become a “Doer.”
It is a rare opportunity for us to share this moment in time and be present with two “Doers,” like Gordon and Nina, who dedicate their time and energy to carrying this important message to young people and their families. This story is about not accepting “shikata ga nai,” but to use their own story to practice the art of kintsugi with their brokenness from their childhood.
Many thanks to Lucinda Hsu from Asian American Homeschoolers for hosting this wonderful event.
